The Runner’s Cookbook

My friend Alison, a fast road runner, the administrator for Running-Blogs, head honcho of my favorite running news website Elite Running, and a multi-sport coach at Amherst College in Massachusetts, has used her free time to create The Runner’s Cookbook.

From The Runner’s Cookbook website: “The Runner’s Cookbook features 100 recipes from 90+ contributors, including Joan Benoit Samuelson, Sebastian Coe, Shalane Flanagan, Adam and Kara Goucher, Ryan and Sara Hall, Deena Kastor, Craig Mottram, Dathan Ritzenhein, Khadevis Robinson, Alan Webb, and many others. All of the proceeds from the sales of this book will be donated to the Ryan Shay Memorial Fund and the Jenny Crain “Make It Happen” Fund.”

You probably recall that Ryan Shay was the runner who succumbed to a fatal heart condition during the Men’s Olympic Marathon Trials last fall in New York City. Jenny Crain’s, a top American athlete, running career came to a screeching halt last summer when she was severely injured by a car while out running in Wisconsin. Alison, who has selflessly donated hundreds of hours of personal time and equipment to make this cookbook, will receive nothing (but our accolades) and these two charitable causes receive everything.

I purchased The Runner’s Cookbook today, and I was wondering if you might think of doing so as well. Perhaps The Runner’s Cookbook would also make a good gift for another runner you know? Finally, if you think this is a good cause, would you advertise it to your running friends and on your blog?

Thanks so much for posting this, Meghan. Perhaps I should hire you as my PR woman!

Even though I don’t always comment, I enjoy reading every blog entry you write…though yesterday’s entry made me very sad and sympathetic.

This sounds like a great idea – donation of book profit.

Meghan, it’s really nice that you posted this to help out Alison. Thank you for bringing such a worthy cause to my attention. Prior to reading your blog post, I was not aware of the fundraising effort. I will look to purchase a cookbook and I will post something on my blog about the effort – even though no one reads my blog.

    Olga- Agreed!

Kevin- Thank you, and I’m sure Alison thanks you as well!
